Trip Date: January 1, 2023

It’s the first hike of the 2023 season. After spending a wet and muddy NYE in Zion National Park, I’m eventually making my way back home to California. After a huge winter storm, the sun finally appeared for the first time in 2 days! Without a doubt, I wanted to get in one last adventure before making the 7-hour drive back home and caught myself wandering around Washington, Utah just outside of the Red Cliffs National Conservation.

The Red Cliffs National Conservation is managed by BLM, and for that reason, the visitor center is worth checking out! Ultimately, I would recommend at least half a day, or a couple of hours to really explore the reserve, yet- I only gave myself a short amount of time. About an hour to be exact. I discovered there are many hiking, biking, and riding trails and for being the 1st day of the new year, I was happy to see people out and about and enjoying some time outdoors.

Surprisingly, the Dino Cliffs Trail is considered an easy trail and connects with other trails at the reserve to extend your hike and adventure. I had no idea what to expect when I arrived, but soon after- facing the Dino Cliffs was surely a sight to see. Despite the muddy trail, it took me less than an hour to complete.

In conclusion, the Red Cliffs National Conservation was a great stop before the long drive home. Ultimately, I wish I had more time to explore the Red Cliffs reserve, however, I will be back! In fact, there are a ton of other trails in the park!

In addition to the Dino Cliffs Trail, here are a few other trails worth checking out:

  • White Reef Trail, 3.4 miles
  • Chuckwalla Trail, 1.7 miles
  • Elephant Arch Trail, 3.8 miles
  • Yellow Knolls Trail, 3.8 miles
