Without a doubt, Southern California has received more rain this year than in the past several years. The creeks are flowing, and the waterfalls are raging. Without a doubt, I’d say NOW is the perfect time to chase local waterfalls! I checked out two waterfalls ranging from 30-50 feet tall here in the Angeles National Forest.
📍 Trail Canyon Falls
Trail: Trail Canyon Falls Distance: 4.5 miles round-trip Elevation: 700 ft. gain
Located in the Angeles National Forest, Trail Canyon Falls is considered a moderate trail leading you to a beautiful 30ft. waterfall. Naturally, the trail is relatively easy, as you make your way through the canyon however, to get a better glimpse of the waterfall you can use the provided ropes to help guide you down to the canyon floor. On the other hand, views of the waterfall from the trail are pretty great too so it’s not necessary to climb down. Although the falls flow year-round, it’s best to visit after recent rains for the best flow of the season.
📍 Millard Falls
Trail: Millard Falls Distance: 1.2 miles round-trip Elevation: 500 ft. gain
The hike to Millard Falls is half a mile one way and is an easy trail to follow. Of course, making this a very popular trail for families, especially on the weekends. Millard Falls is a 50-foot waterfall and flows best after recent rains, however, it does flow year-round. Unlike, Trail Canyon Falls there is no climbing, however after several creek crossings footing can get slippery so it’s best to wear water shoes or shoes with better traction and be prepared to get a little wet. Follow the same trail out half a mile back to the parking lot, to complete the one-mile round-trip hike.
In conclusion, Spring is the best time to chase waterfalls! And as the season continues, I’ll be out and about and will continue to add those adventures here. Are there any seasonal waterfalls that I need to check out before the season ends?!
